Just as the expanded 48-team, 104-match World Cup concludes, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has signaled openness to further growth. The head of football's global governing body is now considering a proposal to increase the tournament's participants to 64 teams, which would nearly double the number of nations involved compared to the 32-team format used until 2022.

Such an expansion would dramatically alter the World Cup landscape, potentially leading to 128 total matches if the current structure of group stages and knockout rounds is maintained.
