ICC Annual Conference Concludes: No ODI Format Shake-up, WTC Expansion Deferred

The International Cricket Council's annual meeting has wrapped up, confirming no immediate changes to the 50-over ODI format and deferring any consideration of a 12-team World Test Championship. The governing body also maintained existing suspensions for USA Cricket and Cricket Canada.
Discussions surrounding a potential reduction in the One Day International (ODI) format to 40 overs were definitively shut down at the ICC's annual conference. The governing body clarified that such a move was purely speculative and not under active consideration, reassuring stakeholders that the current ODI structure remains in place.
In addition to the ODI format, the conference also addressed the future of the World Test Championship. Proposals to increase the number of participating teams from ten to twelve were not approved at this meeting, meaning the championship will continue with its existing lineup for the foreseeable future. The board also confirmed the continuation of suspensions for both USA Cricket and Cricket Canada.
Further administrative decisions saw France Cricket placed on official notice regarding their performance, while the Mauritius Cricket Federation was welcomed into the Associate membership fold. These outcomes reflect the ICC's ongoing efforts to manage and develop cricket globally, with a focus on both established and emerging cricketing nations.
While some outlets chased ODI format fireworks, the ICC's annual meeting served as a reality check, prioritizing stability over radical change. The WTC expansion delay is a missed opportunity for greater global competition.
