Islam Makhachev Dominates Dustin Poirier, Retains Lightweight Title

In a highly anticipated lightweight championship bout at UFC 302, Islam Makhachev once again proved his dominance by submitting Dustin Poirier in the final round. Makhachev controlled much of the contest, employing his renowned wrestling and submission skills to wear down the veteran Poirier.

The fight saw moments of high drama, with Poirier demonstrating his toughness and offensive capabilities, even managing to rock Makhachev at one point in the third round. However, Makhachev weathered the storm and ultimately secured a D'Arce choke submission at 2:42 of the fifth round, much to the dismay of the vocal crowd.

This victory marks Makhachev's fourth successful defense of the lightweight title he claimed from Charles Oliveira. Poirier, fighting in what many believe to be his final title opportunity, put forth a valiant effort but fell short against the seemingly insurmountable skill set of the champion.
