Ryan Fox Ties Major Championship Scoring Record at the Open Championship
Ryan Fox etched his name in the record books by firing a 62, equaling the men's major championship scoring record during the third round of the Open Championship on July 18. He is the third player this week to achieve this historic score.
The New Zealand golfer capitalized on favorable early conditions, with minimal wind, to post his exceptional round. Fox's 62 places him in a select group of players to have achieved such a low score in a major championship.
This marks the third instance of a player reaching this scoring milestone in the current tournament. Fellow competitors Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns also posted rounds of 62 on Friday, separated by approximately twenty minutes.
In total, there have now been eight rounds of 62 recorded in major championship history. Notably, half of these historic rounds have occurred at the Royal Birkdale course.
Three players tying the major scoring record in the same week is unprecedented and speaks volumes about the evolving nature of professional golf and course conditions.
