Timberline Football Program Merges with Orofino
The Timberline Spartans will suspend their independent football program for the upcoming season, with their players set to compete under the Orofino Maniacs banner. This decision comes after an evaluation of available student-athlete numbers.
Timberline High School will not have its own football team competing this fall. Instead, student athletes from Timberline will join the roster of the Orofino Maniacs through a cooperative arrangement.
The decision was made after head coach Pat Christopherson and school officials assessed the projected number of players and their age distribution. They concluded that fielding an independent team would be highly improbable.
This move will allow Timberline students interested in playing football to still participate in the sport at the varsity level by joining the Orofino program.
Consolidating resources is a pragmatic approach to keeping football viable for smaller schools, though it marks the end of an era for Timberline's standalone program.
