World Sailing Assesses Environmental Footprint of Olympic Gear

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, World Sailing has begun a detailed assessment of the environmental toll associated with its Olympic-class equipment. This thorough evaluation will cover the entire lifecycle of the gear, from its manufacturing and usage to its eventual disposal.

The objective is to gather robust evidence that will guide future decisions and foster more environmentally responsible practices within the sport. Alexandra Rickham, World Sailing's Director of Sustainability, highlighted the project's importance, stating it will provide the necessary insights to make "smarter choices" and influence the direction of Olympic equipment development.

Rickham further noted that the findings from this life cycle assessment are expected to benefit not only Olympic sailing but also the broader sailing world and could serve as a model for other sports looking to reduce their environmental footprint.
